The Guardians Institute hosts Night Out Against Crime in support of the movement to end violence in neighborhoods across New Orleans on October 13, 2015. The event included youth taking an anti-bullying pledge, healthy food options, a Mardi Gras Indian performance, free books and gift bags for families. There was also a tribute to the legendary drummer Joseph "Smokey" Johnson, who passed on Tuesday, October 6. The tribute included an African ancestral drum salute by local master drummer Luther Gray of Bamboula 2000 and Ghanaian drummer Andrew Wiseman. The crowd also danced to Smokey's "No, It Ain't My Fault". Mr. Johnson, who played drums on "Big Chief" was also a longtime drummer for the Fats Domino Band and attended the Donald Harrison, Sr. Museum's Night Out Against Crime party annually.
