On August 29th, 2005, I was assigned to photograph Hurricane Katrina as she struck Gulfport, Mississippi. I was sent there because 1) we had no idea what was going to happen in New Orleans and 2) I was pretty much the most expendable member of the staff. This morning, I found a kind of video diary I'd done as the storm struck the hotel where I was staying about two miles from shore. I shot the footage then completely forgot about it until today when I was looking for something else on the tape. It shows the storm at the height of its power.
