Viola Cocran, who earlier this year was named Guinness Book of World Records award winner for most volunteer hours worked by an individual in history at Slidell Memorial Hospital Friday March 28, 2013. Cocran volunteered at SMH for a documented 77,019 hours between its opening in 1959 and her retirement on March 31, 2012. Guinness officials notified SMH of the award last fall but the award was only announced earlier this year with the permission of her family.
